I wrote this poem for Paul Newman, resurrected it on behalf of a good man. We shall miss him indeed.
He walked the talk.

A Death in Afghanistan

Tell me my dearest friend,
where on earth can I
be beautiful,
walk tall and proud
and be who I am
if not in Afghanistan?

Am I not so valued here
that I am
a sight not to behold,
Am I not so precious to you
that should anything
less than your image
of my perfection storm
dark in your raging
eyes,
my Beloved Afghanistan,
I should gladly spill my blood read more »

I purchased two t-shirts from my Middle East Peace Forum.
One for me one for my daughter.

The t-shirts are light blue, with END WAR in large black letters. www.extremepeace.com directly underneath.

Please visit the site, order your t-shirt, wear it and say something powerful.

Peace Now. Love Always

One particular conversation ensued that was notable to me... my next door neighbor (from Chile, married to an American) had no qualms about war, nuclear or otherwise. When asked, she had no issues about her son going off to war...or her daughter. read more »

Somewhere A Buddha Sits

Somewhere
a Buddha sits
smiling
with Lotus feet….

In Korea they are rioting
NO American beef
police clash
clubs hit
and blood spills,
water
hoses away
all signs

Somewhere a Buddha
opens his eyes
angels unfurl wings..

John testifies he’s never
seen a storm like the one in
Golden California,
raging. still raging read more »

I don't know how to give you peace
how to heal your wounds, make your
scars disappear,

I don't know how to ride the wild wind today,
form the sun from this blood-wet clay I hold
in my hands,

O Israel!
O Palestine!

You were radiant then, in your olive groves--
your loaves of bread broken in friendship
your fish bountiful, unspared

I don't know how to carry a cross read more »

Most of us belong to that other group,
the dreamless wanderers,
converging under protest songs and patriot games,
fevers blistering tongues,

scattered
to the four corners of the earth,
we are genderless misfits
whose only earthly prize
is the will to speak of the truth,
"To thine own self be true"
our mantra,

Shakespearean players
preach to an empty choir, read more »

Esmeralda was dancing in the streets
while the King of Fools was being crowned
Hugo was hunched over
a flickering candlelight
like a grotesque shadow,
goose quill in hand …
in the meantime in a far-and-away land
once upon a time
a poet reads that the nearly dead can never walk
further than an imaginary line crossing over
and under
every house of worship, read more »
