Marla did indeed set an example of the kind of patriotism progressives are seeking to foster. She has been on my mind lately, too, as a symbol of propeace activism. I had thought of how her sacrifice could be used as a way of reframing the "Support Our Troops" slogan. I can visualize a picture of her in the open part of one of those ribbon loops others tend to plaster on their cars. Wouldn't we need her family's permission? And is there a better way to frame our respect and admiration for her heroic actions than to call her a "patron saint?" For example, we could call her a "true American patriot."

Should Peace Activists adopt Marla as a patron saint? What a wonderful example she set. What a terrible tragedy that our country and our country's victims have lost her as their advocate.
