Oil....smoil

It is not about Oil nor will any boycott be realistic enough. The numbers never have been there for Oil boycotts.
The fight is at the top of our government. The fight is hard, uphill and constant.
It is worth it, and many are fighting it from different angles.
But it was never about oil.... try world domination by a few with no country loyalites!

Trojan*Peace

"What was the US really pre-empting with its pre-emptive war? Not Saddam, but effective UN sanctions and inspections. They had to be stopped before they could succeed and spread--metastasizing peace, eroding the diktat of the world's only remaining Great Power"

Power always erodes from within, their illusion of controlling the people can not be maintained by myth and deception. Truth and peace will always overcome fear and hate . . .

Truth has spread across the globe and continues to grow . . .

Peace Shall*Be, as We The People see and embrace The HE(ART) of Peace . . .

It was

Sally(sarah)Mathews
It was my understanding that we are not fighting for oil for the american citizen, but control of oil for oil corporate companies,
We are not that dependent on middle east oil as our corporate investors, for profits to made, abroad. In addition, when they say who will control the oil; looking back at history, at the iraq and iran war that kill over 100,000 people, and the war the war we participated in, nobody is going to give country the oil, our president is from the oil state, obviously this is Texas monies.
The other thing that, most americans understand about the middle east is that, the countries, are of the family, and it is there dispute, and the corporate American business, what control, hardball, The american public have no reason to fear, running out of oil, but the corporate will does fear loosing business, We have kuait and saudia arabia; we just want them to keep control, they could taken Saadam anytime, for them, it is different perception, and never forget, there is a lot of money to be made,

What would every nation appreciate? Think... start with nations destroyed by war famine destruction of all kinds...
clean water food air...
THIS is what we can "Instead of squandering our resources on war, let us use them to rebuild the lives of everyone affected."
we will turn the deserts into gardens, the gardens and forests into schools... when we put resources... time, money, caring, where they are best rewarded. As soldiers we know, as true peacemakers we learn and grow.
evolving from antiwar to propeace

Scott Ritter is quite mistaken in his belief that the anti-war movement will collapse. It's not going to go away, especially if the administration decides to attack Iran. It may polorize into a more aggressive anti-war stance and a more steadfast propeace movement. Right on, Cindy Sheehan, for calling for the latter!!

Scott's assertion that the anti-war movement has grown because the war has gone badly seems correct to me, even obvious. If the war had gone well (if that is even possible for something as barbaric as war) the Iraqis would be a peaceful, self-determining, self-governing people by now. They would be the envy of the Arab world. They would be the shining example of how the administration knew better and therefore should be forgiven of its lies.

Obviously since the war did not come even close to the ideal outcome, people are coming out of the woodwork calling for a change of policy, like perhaps to a policy that doesn't suck, like not a losing policy. I don't consider this shallow. I applaud this. As Cindy says, people are getting off of their behinds. Let them evolve with us into a propeace movement, a movement that does not need a war to justify its existence.

So happy Cindy is on board with us!

The single largest irrigated crop in the United States is Lawn Turf, more time, energy, chemicals and resources are spent growing, producing and maintaining American Lawns than all other crops combined.

the acronym et al

To see the acronym, one has to follow the emphases on the Flyer: Peace, Education, Action, Committments, and Extrapolate to Everyone.

This model has its third session, of course, devoted to creatively brainstorming Actions one might engage in, and this is where I would call attention to the Department of Peace Campaign, ProPeace.net, and other action campaigns and resources already in motion. The fourth session, of course, also relates to this, in focusing on one's choice of Commitments, and networking with others in the group in relation to this Commitment.

Thanks for your comments and suggestion.

Mike

bibli

Very interesting. Thank you for posting this story. Clearly by over emphasizing the recreational/medicinal use of hemp The Marijuana Act was the killing blow to industrial and agrigultural uses of hemp. It was moral righteousness used in gaining unwarranted competitive advantage and in "protecting" us from our own freedom. Should the government have more faith that free enterprise has the wisdom to make good choices? If our choices turn out to be unfortunate, at what point does the government step in to help clean up the mess?

This dynamic might be applicable to the stem cell research discussion going on today.

Yes, could you please post the bibliography?

Peace Circles

Your idea is low-maintenance, and that's important in this important-busy activist culture. I would make one suggestion: It is obvious that P.E.A.C.E. is meant to be an acronym, but I don't see its meaning spelled out on the flyer. I hope that, in your circles, you will help to spread the word about the Department of Peace Campaign and Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication paradigm - and propeace.net, of course!

Public Peace

Children are the peacebringers. I've heard it said that peace is a women's issue. Even moreso, it's a children's issue. There's a line from a song in "South Pacific": "You've got to be taught to hate and fear." It's not our natural state of being to hate and fear. Our natural state of being is to love and trust, and the children can show us the way back to that true path.

I was in my doctor's waiting room last week when four-month-old Jeremiah caught my eye. I never deny eye contact to a child. He was so open that I had to smile and wave hello. He responded with that unmistakable universal "pick me up" gesture - leaning toward me with outstretched arms. His mother was shy about making eye contact with me, but she relinquished him to me and told me his name and age when I asked. He and I played "big hug" - made my day! He shared his peace with me, and I shared it with his mother. I can't help thinking that his mother's peace also grew as a result. In fact, in that moment, in that place, the amount of peace multiplied itself.

Another way to make our peace public is to celebrate in public places where the media have access to us. I know so many peaceloving people, and yet even the so-called progressive media think we're an apathetic, spineless, ignorant minority. Participation in nature walks, book circles, drum circles, multi-ethnic food fairs, and festivals of all kinds will go a long way toward making peaceful sounds and movements even if you're not the type to demonstrate or attend political rallies.

Share your peace.

Editor, propeace.net

big happy movement

Susan Livingston wrote:
much of our problem today is due to the fact that violence makes more noise and moves around so much more than peace. My personal favorite solution is public song and dance, and I'm guessing that others can enlarge on that.

So true. I take the train into the city to work each day, and I am often struck by the silence and constriction that people exhibit, myself included. There is no joy and delight anywhere on the train, with one exception. A working mother brings her small child with her each day, and around her there is always conversation. There are always smiles.

When did adults stop moving, really moving? Children make big happy movements, demanding a reaction and an adjustment from their surroundings. There is mystery and surprise and unintended creative genius. There is discovery. This is waging peace.

Lovely Prayer

..., but remember that, while peace starts within, it must not end there. Prayers and conscious support are necessary but not sufficient; your physical presence is needed or your peace cannot penetrate and perpetuate. I used to think that I was fulfilling my responsibility by achieving the peace that comes with knowing that I was doing the best I could do - playing the hand I was dealt - and leading an exemplary life. However, I've come to believe that much of our problem today is due to the fact that violence makes more noise and moves around so much more than peace. My personal favorite solution is public song and dance, and I'm guessing that others can enlarge on that.
