Did you see a few pages down where it said Mr. Bush, once out of office and realizing in horror the detriment caused, became one of the most powerful instruments in the collapse of the Robber Baron Era? The world has never since seen such a painfully public process of self destruction, redemption and renewal! I think the Dalai Lama played more than a little part in encouraging that process along.

the peace / anti-peace universe

Quantum physics tells us that all realities exist in a field of possibilities. It is when we choose, in our role as the observer, that we manifest our experience. The propeace community is a portal to a parallel universe. We invite people to choose this reality by considering "evolving from antiwar to propeace". We know that as greater and greater numbers of us make this choice, we will see "news from the future" in the New York Times and on CNN.

Antiwar reality is actually the same as the war reality. To be antiwar is to buy-in to war as inevitable in a pledge to be its nemesis.

To be propeace is to accept peace as inevitable and to choose it always from the field of possibilities. In our propeace reality, to be a warmaker is to be anti-peace. It is to buy-in to the inevitability of peace in a pledge to be its nemesis. If this sounds to you like the way it should be, then you live in the propeace universe.

Two*Powers

There are still two super powers on this planet, one is the United States of America and the other is the Peoples World Opinion, with a third on the very near horizon, the USA will be well served if it does not squander its current position by simply attempting to control the limited resource of oil which will soon be replaced, opening the avenue of change to those who are ready to take advantage of it, China looms great and large as it always has and always will on the world stage, and is rapidly moving toward developing the ways and means of sustainable, peaceful change.

Parallel Universe

It's always a treat to find a message from a parallel universe on this website. Reading this message opened the portal to my own inner peace and connected me with the peace that exists in this universe. Thus do we foster the abundance of peace.

Future News

Have you noticed that there is a taxonomic category on this site for future news? This is indeed a G.I.F.T. we are creating in this community. Thanks, Bruce.

I want to promote a frame that Bruce has used here - overdeveloped nations. That would be us in the US. Let's get serious about using this frame by always spelling "overdeveloped" as one word, like "nonviolence" and "propeace." Let's also take advantage of this moment to break up the dichotomy of "developed" versus "developing" nations by using "overdeveloped" not to replace "developed" but rather in addition in order to created three levels of development.

We're into April now, and Earth Day is three weeks away. To celebrate, I returned to the footprint website to see how heavily I'm treading on the planet. I was dismayed to discover that I'm still consuming 3 1/2 times as much as is available for each person. I know exactly what that's about - My truck and my food. I've already pledged to let my next vehicle be one that can burn biofuel, but since I depend on faith-based food pantries for a significant amount of my food, I don't forsee any possibility to further reduce the impact of mass produced food that is transported over long distances on the size of my footprint. It was a small consolation that my footprint is only about 2/3 the size of the average person in the US.

Re: a vision

david wrote:
if we can't even produce anything like consensus here on this website, how on EARTH are we going to gather sufficient social power to alter political institutional inertia?

I think the point is not necessarily to reach agreement on anything and everything. I think the point is to grow in the manner in which we disagree.

It is probable that we humans will always disagree. The problem, it seems to me, is that we each strive to have our view dominate and will go to great lengths to make sure that it does. This pattern of domination leads us to do destructive things to the character and/or country of those with whom we disagree. Our self-importance tells us that we are right and "the other" is wrong. We need to develop peaceful ways of communicating our view and encouraging "the other" to understand it peacefully.

At the same time we need to develop the capacity to listen carefully to the understanding that "the other" is trying to communicate. Our minds are capable of understanding an issue from multiple viewpoints. It is our personal choice to assign a "rightness" or "wrongness" to each. We should not hold that our personal choice validates or invalidates anyone else's choice, character, morality, dignity or worth.

It's a difficult challenge, at least it has been for me. Probably most of us are not taught to think in these terms.

a vision

Aha. Now we are talking. A vision. Your rhetoric is fine (as is Rainbow Brian's): platform planks and caucuses. Let's not pretend, however, that politicians and the political system are anything other than the necessary complixification of living in a modern world of diversity.
Historians have a difficult enough time ascertaining what happened in the past even though it happened. What chance do we have of discussing visions of the future?
I do not think you are getting ahead of yourself. I would like to hear of your citizens of Earth, because if we are talking visions, we need to have to:

first - the courage to state our vision

second - the respect to confront our divergent visions

I would like to think we are on the same page, barking up the same tree, however if we can't even produce anything like consensus here on this website, how on EARTH are we going to gather sufficient social power to alter political institutional inertia?
Pull out the stops, Jason, state your truth clearly for the new year. I promise I will read, and I promise that I will honour it with full conscious engagement. Love d.

Vision

Subtitle: News from the Future of America - Part II

We're on the same page. You're barking up the right tree. Your ad hoc caucus idea is inspired, empowering, and practical. However, how would we choose our legislature and chief executive in a system that has no parties to put forward candidates?

I suggest that a multipartisan system rather than a nonpartisan system would still be required under our present constitution. But given the state of the Republicratic Parties, I believe we have seen the last of the outmoded bipartisan system. I predict that a significant increase in the number of "third party" legislators will be the result of the '06 elections with that third party being sometimes a Green, sometimes an Independent, sometimes a Progressive, sometimes a Labor, sometimes a Socialist, etc. (We really need to reframe "third party" so that these alternative parties are not marginalized.) Then we can get serious about honoring and embracing diversity as we reform our electoral process to get out the voters in '08.

Political*Vessel

Composed of platform planks, crafting the ark for which to sail the cargo of humanity into the nature of compassion, trust and love. Steaming forward on the course of tolerance, with consideration for all passengers and crew, a brilliant ocean liner comprised of hardy small boats, sturdy freighters, luxury yachts, grand tankers, and powerful cruisers. All with the purpose and direction of the global fleet held foremost in the planning of their shared journey.

It is time for, many now are standing up to provide the example such as, Senator Tom Coburn in his book - Breach of Trust: who calls for a new vision of the political system.

Party*On

How about some PJ-party platform suggestions folks ??

The United States spends only - 16 cents out of every $100.00 US tax dollars collected on foreign aid. That is the lowest amount of any developed nation on the planet. Thus the richest nation provides the least support to the world which it takes the majority of its resources from. If you include all US private health and social dollar donations into the equation the amount climbs to a shameful 25 cents, still among the lowest of the developed nations.

The 1040-MY$$ people's choice tax form, is the best solution to a transitional method of government reform. By directing 40 percent or more of an individuals tax payment to areas of support chosen by that individual, when filling out check box's on the 1040-MY$$ form.

Every area of public spending would be put under a pooled category which would have a corresponding check box on the form. That money would then be evenly split among the spending pools chosen by the tax payer.

There by putting a persons tax dollars into the areas of one’s own choosing and giving a true voice to the people which could not be ignored.

People's Choice Taxation is a fair and equal way to tax a population.

Pajama Party

A week or so ago, I got a query from PAC, Barbara Boxer's group, in which she asked us to prioritize five questions that were to be posed to UN Ambassador Bolton. The results showed that the overwhelming majority of her group were not interested in explanations of past blunders, lies, or posturing. We would rather move on to what's next - finding our place in the international community. Boxer seemed surprised at this result, and yet she is possibly one of the most progressive 5% of all Senators.

The Pajama Party has a clear mandate to speak for that majority who are ready to dedicate our human and material resources to the future. As Jason so rightly indicates, the existing party structure in this country is hell-bent on self-preservation to the exclusion of addressing the real needs of the people.

One of those needs is for a Department of Peacebuilding and Human Security. What if we start having our house parties and meetings in our pajamas and leave the suits to the bi-partisans? What an effective way to emphasize our universal and non-partisan nature! What if we table events and participate in demonstrations in our pajamas? What an effective way to get media attention without resorting to the sensationalism of bullhorns and hate talk!

I look forward to Part II in which I'd like to see more about the platform of the Pajama Party.

"Blue in a Red State"
