International Women's Day

Code Pink Action Alert

March 8 is International Women's Day, and to celebrate, Code Pink has launched an ambitious campaign to make a worldwide appeal for the end of the war in Iraq (and elsewhere, if you look at the complete list of planned events). The campaign is called Women Say No To War, and you can go there and add your name to the petition or print out petition forms to help in the collection of signatures. The goal is to collect at least 100,000 signatures by March 8. A group of Iraqi and American women will deliver the petitions to the White House while other groups will deliver them to American embassies around the world. The petition itself makes really powerful reading; I wept when I read it. It points out that women are the ones most affected by war and calls for the end of hostilities so that the healing process can begin. Of course, participation by men is welcome!

If you look at the links above, you will find that nonviolent protest activities have already been planned in many places. Please consider organizing one in your area if there is not one already planned. I've been reading - and writing! - posts on this website that indicate that some of you are feeling a certain hopelessness and lack of empowerment about the state of the world today. I've also been reading - and writing! - posts that give suggestions about how to empower yourself and bring hope, and thus peace, to humanity - or at least the small part of which YOU are the center. If enough of such centers rise up, then the edges will begin to merge, and the world will know peace, hope, and prosperity. Let's do this thing!
