Dept. of Peace campaign outreach meeting - Feb. 25 - Lexington, MA

Description:
The campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace
Invites you to attend an Outreach Meeting
On February 25, 2006, from 2 to 4 pm,
At the First Parish UU Church in Lexington,
7 Harrington Rd., Lexington, http://www.fplex.org/content/directions.html
Imagine our country being governed with peace as an organizing principle! Imagine our three branches of government working together with a culture of peace at its core!
What if there was a cabinet level Department of Peace, a companion to the Department of Defence, with a Secretary of Peace, who met regularly with our President and could advise peaceful ways that our needs and the needs of other people/countries could be met? The bill would call for the establishment of a Peace Academy, like the military academy, where students could study methods of nonviolent communication, sharing world resources, appreciation of world cultures and religions, as well as peaceful resolution of domestic issues.
Today there is current legislation for just such a Department of Peace, with 65 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives (HR3760) and a companion bill recently introduced into the Senate (Sen.1756).
Come and find out more about this vital and growing grass roots movement. A US Department of Peace would support groups and individuals already involved in peacework as well as help initiate new efforts.
Help us spread the word that peace is possible
