Christian Peacemakers Released

It's big news for me because I have a friend who has served with Christian Peacemakers, and to me they represent a type of Christianity we don't get to hear about often enough.

Quote:
The hostages' four-month ordeal ended without a shot being fired, as coalition forces pursued intelligence gained from a detainee. The three men - Briton Norman Kember and Canadians James Loney and Harmeet Singh Sooden of the Chicago-based Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) - were found alone and unguarded.

Not surprisingly, the Right Wing Bloviators are making great hay over the fact that the CPT did not "thank their rescuers", but this is a false argument. The CPT'ers had given Coalition forces explicit instructions not to stage a rescue, that if their release could not be accomplished through negotiation, they were prepared to sacrifice their own lives instead of risking others.

The Christian Peacemakers are doing the kind of work that could actually stop the violence there, were an equal number of Peacemakers to replace the Occupation Forces. The three hostages who were released yesterday are in good physical condition, and report that they were not abused by their captors in any way.
