United Call for Global Ceasefire on International Day of Peace - September 21, 2006

An emerging possibility this past week has to do with the International Day of Peace September 21st. As you know, in 2001 the UN passed Resolution 55/282 (PDF format): "Declares that the International Day of Peace shall henceforth be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day...." A number of of us are presently discussing the possibility of all of us making a united call for such a global ceasefire and a day of nonviolence.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE SEPTEMBER 21, 2006

All of us must plan for the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2006. Let all of our energies bring out the largest gathering of human beings in the history of mankind to demand peace.
Let no government think that peace is a luxury or a side issue.
Make every leader in the world know that the time of of peace is NOW.
Spread the word and with passion let it be known that war is no longer acceptable.
Go forth.. Stop reading. Go forth and do your part! Nothing less than
an all out assault on the world's senses will get us on the first step toward a peaceful globe.
We must be creative and passionate and focused. Write. Pray. Sing. Do whatever it is you do and bring it to make the day of peace the greatest in history.

PEACE

FEAR ITSELF by Mike Hoban

I believe that every reader of this site should make one copy of Michael Hoban's beautiful poem and then send it to everyone he/she can.
Let each friend or relative know that you read the poem on this site.
Suggest that they join propeace and spread the word. It seems like an eternity to September 21, 2006, but if we start this very day focusing our spirit and heart on the biggest turnout in world history of human beings praying and singing for peace...it will happen.
Let us assert our love and not our fear to move our world one step forward to peace.
Our young have died on the killing fields of Iraq and Vietnam and have courageously fought for what they believed to be true. Our leaders fed us lies and led us to a path of bloodshed and war. We must support our young troops by letting them know the truth and letting the light shine on them.
For every Congressman or woman and Senator who has not stood up yet and made his or her voice known, shame on you!! You are working for us and not for the President or your future election. Whether you get elected tomorrow depends on what you do today. Don't count the polls. Do what is in your heart and what is right.
From that vantage point you will come out alright and be among the leaders who will go fought on September 21, 2006 proud in the knowledge that Franklin D. Roosevelt's quote was in your mind and in your heart:
"Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
Franklin D. Roosevelt, March 4, 1933
