Manifesto of the Human RevolutionOF THE HUMAN REVOLUTION The main theme of history is the unrelenting struggle of human beings for the satisfaction of their human needs. Members of national, ethnic, economic class and religious uprisings are also human beings fighting to attain the same. They are participants in a human revolution. Reactions to the various manifestations of the human revolution around the world have included repression as well as expulsion. Reaction to the post cold war phase of the human revolution includes the Bush administration's ideological crusade, backed by military force. The human revolution being waged today is a human rights supported fight waged by a growing number of human beings around the world, through membership in variously labeled groups. They fight for the satisfaction of their own and their families' economic needs for food, water, and shelter in social and political conditions that provide them a sense of safety, peace, and freedom from oppression and exploitation. The objective of the participants in the human revolution is to bring about economic, social, and political conditions in which the human needs everywhere are satisfied. Some of the means used to reach the objective of the human revolution are non-violent. They have included petitions, declarations, and demonstrations. Some of the means used to reach the objective of the human revolution are violent. They have included ethnic, sectarian, religious conflicts, including terrorist activities. The U.S. administration's post cold war reaction to the human revolution is an ideological crusade. The crusade aims at spreading Western ideas abroad and policies that do not promote the satisfaction of human needs. It intensifies the use of violent means in the human revolution. It is high time to organize in support of the objectives of the human revolution by peaceful means in the U.S. and abroad. This is not an easy task. The human needs of many in the middle class are satisfied with adequate food and shelter everywhere. They do not feel government repression or corporate world exploitation in their everyday lives and are not concerned about those who do. They are likely to pay only lip service, and will not stand by the human revolution. Then are there those without adequate food and shelter who do feel to be living under repression and exploitation in their respective countries, and members of the middle class who are concerned about such human beings. They could and should be awakened and encouraged to fight for those policies and actions of their governments that measure up to the single criterion: Do policies and actions serve the satisfaction of needs of human beings at home and abroad? The fight for such policies and actions may include petitions, declarations, and peaceful demonstrations on behalf of the human revolution. It could also include extending support, in elections in the U.S. and abroad, only on behalf of those candidates who embrace the objective of the human revolution. Such candidates should publicly commit to the principle that satisfaction of human needs is the primary aim and responsibility of every elected representative and every government. And those human needs are food, water, and shelter to each, and living in social and political conditions that provide every human being a sense of safety, peace, and freedom from oppression and exploitation. Each may the fight alone. But it could be more effective if all those who care about the fate of human beings form an ARCH, an Alliance for Radical CHange. ©2006 Dov Ronen

Re: Manifesto of the Human Revolution
I found this a very interesting and well-stated interpretation of what's going on. One reaction I had is that it could be used as a basis for empathy with some of the groups who are struggling the most right now, like the insurgents in Iraq, and the al Qaeda movement. Several ways in which we in this country contribute to the escalation of the violence of their struggle are by (a) demonizing them for struggling, and (b) acquiescing in other's demonization, in stead of standing up for the merits of their point of view which, while different from our own, has merits of its own; and (c) just being silent bystanders who accept our "crusade" against them without objection or without even asking some very basic questions about what our position really should be.
Yes, and the lives of so many us are so filled with just meeting daily needs and responsibilities. Few have the time to take on the problems of the larger world, when they have their hands full with their own.
One concrete, time-limited, yet constructive thing we could do, given this restraint, is to structure some time-limited, feasible opportunities or ways for people to get involved, without becoming overwhelmed or everextended in doing so. I would urge people to consider the option of forming small Peace Circles, problem-solving conversations to promote awareness of constructive, peaceful ways to resolve conflicts. My thought here is that to structure an hour and a half meeting for this purpose once every two or three or even four weeks, would let everyone do something constructive, rather than remaining uninvolved and uninformed. I've mentioned this idea here before. See Peace Circles.
Sincerely,
MTO
