ARROGANCE - A Poem

ARROGANCE

Michael Hoban, Ph.D.

I

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld - pick one just by chance.
What you know you'll surely get is a lot of arrogance.

"The end justifies the means" - this could be their cry.
Tell the people anything - so what's a little lie?

We know best so it's our job to tell them what they need.
Twist the truth or make it up - that has been our creed.

The average person (John or Jane) doesn't know as much as we.
We'll tell them what they need to hear - be it truth or fantasy.

II

"For what is truth in any case?" - someone may just ask.
As long as what we decide gets accepted as the task.

We'll say we want to make them free (we will not mention oil)
We only want democracy to settle on their soil.

So what if some must die so that we can have our way.
Doesn't everybody know we're out to make their day?

You will accept democracy (or at least our version) soon.
For if you don't, we'll use our might to blow you to the moon.
