Propeace Theme MonthSo many other causes and movements have theme months. There's Black History Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, etc. We should establish a month as a propeace theme month. I propose that we do this in October since that precedes the elections here in the United States and closely follows International Day of Peace (September 21st). What do you think? What name could we give it? I had proposed "No Fear Month" in a comment on another post, but I think that's too negative. My new suggestion is "Nonviolent Courage Month". I know some of you have ideas about this -- please share them! Once we have several, I'll set up a poll and we can vote.

propeace quoteWe, the peoples of the United Nations, determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal right of men and women and of nations large and small....And for these ends to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors...have resolved to combine our efforts to accomplish these aims. daily ombeyondanandarecent blog postsactive discussionssimilar postswho's onlineThere are currently 0 users and 88 guests online.

Conflict Transformation Month
I would suggest “conflict transformation monthâ€Â, in the hope people might wonder “what’s that?†“Peace†alone can sound abstract, remote, unattainable. “Peacemaker†to me sort of implies a nice type of person. “Conflict†is a term people immediately relate to, as there is so much of it happening. “Transformation†suggests one does something constructive about a conflict, turning into something positive for both sides. The term “conflict transformation†is used in connection with win/win approaches toward conflict resolution. If one can constructively resolve a conflict, one can attain peace. If one can’t resolve a conflict, one may end up with war. So the term “conflict transformation†focuses more on what can do to bring about peace. It’s practical and pragmatic, and not just an ideal, as “peace†itself often is. FWIW

peacemakers month
calling it peacemakers month is an excellent idea . it is simple but inclusive.
Peacemakers Month
What about just calling it "Peacemakers Month"?
Week of Nonviolence
The YWCA is promoting a Week of Nonviolence from October 16 to October 22 with lots of good educational suggestions on their Canadian site. In cooperation with our local FOR chapter, I'm creating a consciousness-raising module on violence in the media for middle school math/science teachers; other group members are doing modules in other subject areas and across age groups. The primacy of addressing youth about these issues has been recognized in several contexts on this website. I'll be more available with links and ideas for anyone who would like to join me if you will write to me or post here after Mothers Day.

Dare to Make Peace Month
I like the word "peace" as part of the title more than "nonviolence". I feel so uplifted by the ideas we are exploring in the Prayer and Peacemaking sessions, and was so taken by Dan Snyder's expression that peace is something we give to the world rather than something we try to find in it. And I like the term "courage" more than "fearlessness" because without fear, there is no courage, there is only recklessness.
The challenge of putting "courage" and "peacemaking" into a catchy title was too much for me though.
