US FascismWhen fascism comes to the US, it won't be wearing swastikas - it will be wearing red, white and blue and whistling Yankee Doodle Dandy.

where'd that come from?
I think I've seen that quote before, Susan, but can't quite place it. Perhaps it seems familiar because it's so obvious!
I've been involved in many a discussion about how Fascism differs from other forms of repressive government structures. One absolutely essential element of Fascism that is missing from any of the definitions offered by Jason's sources is the castigation of The Enemy Within. It could be Communists, it could be Jews, it could be Negroes, it could be Immigrants, or perhaps . . . "The Left". But the mantra is always the same: these horrible, wicked people who pretend to be just like "us" are conspiring to destroy the very fabric of our heritage and suck away the strength and vigor of our society. It is every citizen's duty to expose them, ostracize them, and punish them for their traitorous wrongdoings.
Sound familiar?

define fascism
Pronunciation: 'fa-"shi-z&m also 'fa-"si-
Function: noun
Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, fasces, group, from Latin fascis bundle & fasces fasces
From The American Heritage Dictionary:
A philosophy or system of government that is marked by stringent social and economic control, a strong, centralized government usually headed by a dictator, and often a policy of belligerent nationalism.
From Encyclopedia Britannica:
Philosophy of government that stresses the primacy and glory of the state, unquestioning obedience to its leader, subordination of the individual will to the state's authority, and harsh suppression of dissent. Martial virtues are celebrated, while liberal and democratic values are disparaged.
From Merriam-Webster:
1 : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition
2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control
