Philippine Rotarians promote Peace among school children

Some ten to fifteen Rotary clubs in Quezon City, Philippines have rallied around the Centre for P.E.A.C.E.'s project of holding "on-the-spot" Peace painting contests in elementary schools and "Peace essay-writing" contests in high schools within the city.

Each of these clubs have adopted schools where they have independently sponsored Rotaract and Interact clubs among students. The contests will be held simultaneously within the month of September, which is World Peace Month. September is also celebrated by Rotarians worldwide as New Generations Month, with emphasis on extending services to the youth.

Winning students will receive awards and prizes. Winning entries will be judged again for the over-all winners, with bigger prizes at stake for the young artists most of whom come from poor families.

Pursuant to all these, the clubs have agreed to jointly sign a memorandum of agreement and launch the "Quezon City Partnership for Peace" on August 18, Friday, with the Rotary Club of Masambong as lead host club.

The launching will be attended by representatives from the Department of Education, city government officials, city schools officials, officers and members of participating Rotary clubs, and the Centre for P.E.A.C.E.

TV and radio broadcasters, and newspaper reporters are invited to cover the launching and the succeeding events.
