Quezon City, Philippines: IDP 2006 Peace Day EventThe Quezon City Partnership for Peace celebrated the International Day of Peace last September 21 and concluded its "Eight Days for Peace in QC" by holding two city-wide competitions among students in Quezon City's public schools. This Peace Day Event is recognized as part of the UN mandated International Day of Peace 2006 celebrations world-wide. The "Eight Days for Peace in QC" was launched last September 14-21 by the Quezon City Partnership for Peace, a joint undertaking of the Centre for P.E.A.C.E. and the Rotary Club of Masambong together with 26 other Rotary Clubs in the city in cooperation with DepEd NCR, PNP-NCRPO, and city government officials. An on-the-spot Essay-writing Competition for High School Students, and a Painting Competition for elementary pupils, were simultaneously held at the 3rd and 4th floors of the rotary Center in Roces Ave., Bgy. Paligsahan, Quezon City. Forty eight elementary pupils and thirty six high schools students, some accompanied by their teachers/trainers, participated in the competitions. The winners will be announced next week. Rotary District Gov. Dan Espinosa welcomed the guests and participants and congratulated Don Flordeliza, Jr. of the Centre for P.E.A.C.E and the Rotary Club of Masambong for organzing the event. Department of Education National Capital Region Directress Dr. Teresita G. Domalanta sent a delegation composed of Regional Education Supervisors Dr. Crisanto Ecija, Dr. Restituto Lomeda, Ms. Gloria Alday and Mrs. Victoria Mayo who constituted the main judges for the essay-writing competition. NCRPO RD Reynaldo P. Varilla was represented by PSInsp Jose Manuel Payos of the The club presidents of co-host Rotary clubs who were present constituted the main judges for the on-the-spot-painting contest under the supervision of Dr. Ecija. They were Ernie Lee of Balintawak, Ton Agapinan of Cubao Kamias, Gil Oandazan of New Manila West, Jo Durana of QC North, Ferdie Basa of San Francisco Heights, Jake Ayson of Tandang Sora, Willie Garcia of Valencia. Charter Secretary Salvie Einosas represented Charter President Don Flordeliza, Jr. of Masambong. Club Secretary Emma Mallari represented Pres. Mon Monsale of Capitol Hills, Club Secretary Vicky Dizon and Club Director Ruby Yulo represented Pres. Benny Yang of West Triangle. Eighteen other Rotary club presidents co-hosted the event. They are Jess Esase of Biak-na-Bato, Yolly Alminana of Centennial QC, Noel Estanislao of Commonwealth, Pete Murao of Cubao Central, Mon Fria of Cubao EDSA, Ayie Gonzales of Cubao West, Nora Eduardo of Cubao North, Nitz Estrellas of Kagitingang Cubao, Ed Vitangcul of Loyola Heights, Fred Capitan of Metro Sta. Mesa, Benjie Santos of QC Southwest, Toots Medina of Sto. Domingo, Eniong Alvarez of Sub-city Mabuhay, Ver Sison of Valencia Heights, Gary Ting of Cosmopolitan Cubao, Elmer Magnate of Diliman, Romy Villaluna of Metro SFDM and Boyet Tabao of SFDM.
