Natural*DefenseThe past centuries have given mankind many lessons, presented him with opportunity for insight, the variety to change and the knowledge to evolve. In the realm of defense we know that a fixed fortification can not be defended indefinitely. Also we know that walls and borders will always be permeable and eventually shall fail, regardless of their intended purpose, whether to hold back water or waves of people, it is the motion of change which will always render the false security of its formidable looking illusion of stone and steel into a useless tourist attraction. We also know that a poorly armed and loosely organized, yet highly motivated underground fighting force, will ultimately prevail over the most sophisticated, highly trained, best organized, equipped and mechanized war machine that can be fielded or even imagined, as the very nature of such a large force is its basic reliance on being what amounts to a fixed fortification behind walls, borders and the people who support it, all being a grand version of a mid evil castle, a fixed fortification, an illusion of security and social prowess. Yet man continues to expend time, money and resource on building the imagined, enclosed haven of Babylon, physically, mentally and emotionally. Given the numerous and continually devastating failed results of this course of action, it should be obvious to the extreme that a change in direction would be the prudent and intelligent decision to be made in regards to the social and economical means which support the system. Especially since the dependance on maintaining conflict and violence as a means to an end, will logically bring about just that, The End. An alternative has always been available, yet largely ignored. Supporting the continued development of a system which places higher value on the nurturing of open discussion and interaction between potential combatants. This of course relies heavily on cooperation and understanding the needs and desires of others and also on the ability and willingness of the social boundaries to expand and contract in variance to meet continuing change. All of these basic principles are naturally in play most of the time. It is only when the mentality of creating fixed fortifications, walls and the deployment of military force to achieve social and political goals are used, that war which is not justified by defensive necessity begins to posture itself into the role of the grand policeman. Creating the breakdown of cooperation and understanding which should naturally circumvent hostile action. The natural defensive posture of a society free of conflict and war with its neighbors is one that values its military might and prowess as an integral part of society that acts and is utilized within it own boarders to defend its population. Carrying a defensive or aggressive action beyond the boundaries of ones jurisdiction is an act of war, regardless of which side strikes first, both must make the conscious decision and choice to act aggressively toward the other. The alternative course of action is to take pre-action to address the symptoms and policy which create the desire for aggression. Conflict is not a fore gone conclusion, not an inevitability in a system designed to support its population in the endeavor of sustaining limits of reasonable distribution, control and cooperation of economy and resource. A system which values the long term stability of relationship over the temporary, short term gain of the destruction and rebuilding of what may be considered expendable and alien to the desired mold of the powerful oppressor or deliverer of what is perceived as civilization and progress by those few. To break the cycle of a defense which ultimately challenges another into conflict, the principles of living within the confines of hate and fear must give way to the natural state of open social development, change and the defense of the core values of basic rights, rather than the aggressive defense of cultural difference as these will always be maintained in a healthy, diverse community which values coexistence over violent response. Forgiveness is both the challenge and the hallmark of a compassionate society. Its Natural*Defense the strength of character inherent of its people, leadership and policy. ©Bruce Larson*Moore

propeace quoteWe frail humans are at one time capable of the greatest good and, at the same time, capable of the greatest evil. Change will only come about when each of us takes up the daily struggle ourselves to be more forgiving, compassionate, loving, and above all joyful in the knowledge that, by some miracle of grace, we can change as those around us can change too. daily ombeyondanandarecent blog postsactive discussionssimilar postswho's onlineThere are currently 0 users and 89 guests online.

Metaphors for all in society
Olivia Madin
The world has too many walls, thats half the reason its in such a mess, people can forget that those who are on the other side are just as valuable- lets knock down the metaphorical walls aswell as the physical ones- lets have it open planned, maybe we will see more clearly!

I agree that walls are not the answer. The "security" wall separating Israel & Palestine is the most dramatic current example of the attempt to resolve differences by shutting out the source of conflict. I agree with you, Bruce, that it is but a temporary solution at best. Ultimately the physical wall of cement and barbed wire provides a more illusory security than the real security that comes from having the confidence to deal in good faith with those who have a legitimate beef with you. The Peace Oil, project is an attempt to bring the conflicting parties together, to deal openly and honestly with one another in a mutually beneficial way. Many projects like this over time will dissolve cement walls and build virtual bridges that provide real security.
