heroes walk among usThe Hero endures as an archetype of the human condition. We know a hero when we see one. They are courageous, tireless, cunning, impervious to setbacks and have an insatiable desire to root out and defeat the unsavory foes. They prevail against all odds. They practice humility. If those who are paraded around by our militaristic culture seem unworthy of the hero archetype, then who is worthy? Look around at the people in the world today. Can you pick out the true heroes? What is surprising about modern heroes is that the tools they use in prevailing are not the one used by the heroes of old. No, in order to be cunning, these heroes wouldn't use the same old tired tools such as weapons. That would be entirely anticipated by any worthy foe. Also surprising is the foe our modern heroes have chosen to vanquish. All the giant, multi-headed, poisonous beasts that ravaged the countryside in the days of old have been dispensed with. By and large, the beings that remain are kind, and loving, and would not choose to commit acts of savagry. But our heroes, ever-questing to root out the foe, have discovered the modern beast. It is formless and penetrating. It drives otherwise kind and loving beings to commit horrendous acts of barbarism. It deceives them into believing that other groups of otherwise kind and loving beings must be dominated and controlled. Our modern foe, Fear, is the most confounding yet in the long line of archetypical monsters, beasts and afflictions. But our heroes remain vigilant lest they fall under the spell of its vices. They are required to maintain impeccable equinamity in the face of the outrageous contortions of this beast. If you are looking for heroes, look around at your fellow peacemakers. These are the most powerful heroes in our world today. See how they use the Arrows of Truth to penetrate the dark heart of Fear? See how they use the Shield of Equinamity to resist the vices of hatred? See how they cunningly choose the Path of Discovery, avoiding the despair of buy-in and indifference? See how they hold the Torch of Compassion aloft, guiding all who are willing and able to See, to victory! True heroes walk among us.
