centre for P.E.A.C.E. confers Dove of Peace Award to Quezon City treasurer

QC Treasurer is "Dove of Peace" Awardee

Quezon City treasurer Victor B. Endriga, phD is one of the first recipients of the "Dove of Peace" Awards in recognition of his outstanding performance in the field of government service (fiscal management). He will be conferred the honor during "An Evening for Peace" Awards Night presentation on Dec. 11, 2006, 7:00 p.m. at the Forum Hall, Airport Casino, Sucat Road, Parañaque City, Metro Manila. The Dove of Peace Awards is a project of the Centre for Peace Education and Advocacy in Communities and Enterprises in cooperation with the Rotary club of Masambong, Quezon City.

Sired by the late lawyer Mamerto B. Endriga, who became undersecretary of Finance, and mothered by a teacher from the Phil. Normal College Florencia Bermejo, both parents instilled in the young Vic a solid core of values that now pervades his character. Vic earned a degree in Fiscal Decentralization and Financial Management of Regional and Local Government from the Institute of Int'l. Dev't./John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University where he served as a Fellow.

The architect of QC's economic recovery
Vic transformed the City Treasurer's Office from its parochial state and "collector" mentality to become a dynamic and vital component in the city's development and progress. He initiated and institutionalized basic reform measures that dramatically improved revenue collections, thereby providing much-needed funds to fuel the city's social agenda and pro-people initiatives. Vic's stellar performance is a record of success that brought stability and growth to Quezon City and triumphantly secured for itself the coveted position of being the richest local government unit in the entire country.

The Quezon City business community dubs him as The Architect of the city's economic recovery. A writer considered him as "a man who's ideas are ahead of his time". Allow us to add and say that he is "a man who lives up to the name his loving parents gave him" (the first name, that is), which became his trade mark in everything he does or ventures into. The real victors though is not this man alone but the millions of people who benefit from his trademark of government service.

The "Dove of Peace" Awards
The "Dove of Peace" Awards seek to provide the much-deserved prominence, honor and recognition to such important contributions in defending, preserving, nurturing and promoting peace and economic stability in our troubled land. The awards seek to recognize outstanding Filipino achievements in promoting a culture of peace and non-violence in the following categories: youth, media, civil society advocacy, sports and entertainment, business enterprise, government, education, peacekeepers, and philanthropy. This year's Awards is conferred to only two outstanding Filipinos in recognition of their unparalleled contributions to promoting a Culture of Peace and Non-violence in our troubled land. The other recipient is businessman-philanthropist Mark Jimenez in the field of philanthropy. Both will always be referred to as the 1st Dove of Peace Awardees. This year's First Awards Night is hosted by the Rotary Club of Masambong on its Second Induction Ceremonies. It will culminate in the launching of the 2007 Annual Search for the 2007 "Dove of Peace" Awardees, which shall confer the award next year to outstanding individuals in each of the 10 categories mentioned above.

Every year henceforth, the Awards shall be conferred to such outstanding individuals in "An Evening for Peace" awards night presentations every 11th day of December. In due time, the "Dove of Peace" shall be one of the country's most prestigious and coveted awards, and attain prominence among our national celebrations, befitting the highest and most noble cause it upholds - the cause of Peace.
