The President ordered 20,000 mediators, arbitrators and conflict resolution professionals to war-torn Somalia today. The decision comes after a month of deliberations with the Secretaries of State and Defense, the newly confirmed Secretary of Peace, countless military, political and humanitarian advisors. The move was heralded around the world as an unprecedented act of courage and resolve, one that befits the highest character of the United States.

"This civil war will not stand," said the President. "We must send a clear message to extremist forces, who believe they are somehow separate from the rest of us, that we share a common future, a future that has arrived. We will not allow them to be excluded or to exclude themselves as that would be a destabalizing factor." The President went on to say that the full might of the country's peacebuilding technologies would be brought to bear on the situation. The President expressed certainty that given the opportunity for all concerned to speak and to listen in a safe environment that common ground would be found and trust could be established between the leaders of the warring groups.

Meanwhile, fierce opposition to the President's plan has mounted here at home. Anti-peace groups demonstrated outside the White House shouting slogans such as "justice is might" and "only violence keeps us safe". Kirk Hawker, spokesperson for the Military Enterprise First Party (ME-First Party), stated that the President was weakening our country's dominance in the world as the world's only superpower. "We cannot represent an effective deterrant to extremists if we engage in pandering and group hugs."

The President's own Peace And Justice for AMericA Party (PAJAMA Party) spokeperson, Antonia Lucidelli, said that counteracting violence by adding tools of violence was like throwing oil on a fire. "Violence is overrated as a tool for change," she said. "Further, the attempt to create a deterrant through violence has obviously failed completely and has likely increased the incentive for violence. It is when we unite and talk through our differences that real and lasting change is achieved, usually in mutually benefical ways that are unexpected."
