DC ConferenceThe bill calling for a Department of Peace and Nonviolence will be introduced today in the House of Representatives. Please call your Members of Congress and urge them to support this legislation that will provide a Secretary of Peace at the cabinet level to focus on the resolution of conflict by peaceful means, domestically and internationally.

propeace quoteWeapons are the tools of fear; a decent man will avoid them except in the direst necessity and, if compelled, will use them only with the utmost restraint. Peace is the highest value. If the peace has been shattered, how can he be content? His enemies are not demons, but human beings like himself. He doesn't whish them personal harm. Nor does he rejoice in victory. How could he rejoice in victory and delight in the slaughter of men? daily ombeyondanandarecent blog postsactive discussionssimilar posts

Letter to Kennedy
Donald L. Orne Jr.
Senator, It was an honor to meet your aide yesterday, Mike Stanton. He was on time and courteous. He listened well and shared from his own life. He took notes and hopefully shared what the Peace Alliance was asking of you. We are asking you to lead in the Senate by introducing the bill which was just introduced in the house yesterday HR808.
I had a dream last night that you did champion the Senate version of the bill to establish a Dept of Peace as a cabinet level position and that you got it out of committee and into law before the year was over. You have dealt with so many issues in your job over these many years; but none is as close to the majority of hearts of this nation and the world, as is this one. This would be like loosing all of the football games you ever played at Harvard and winning the last one against yale by a hundred to nothing. All history would ever remember would be that game. It is that meaningful to us as your voting public and your friends and fellow humans. We know we are asking something that is impossible for the average Senator to even consider. We know however if anyone can do this glorious deed for all of mankind, it is you.
I am personally a 65 year old Navy Veteran who just happened to be born in between the two nuclear explosions on Aug 7 and Aug 9. My birthday, as I whispered to Dennis Kucinich last night at GWU is on 8-08-42 and I got a kick out of hearing the new HR bill had just been given the number 8 0 8 .
I walked around to six different offices yesterday with our Massachusetts group going from Russell to Cannon to Longworth to Rayburn outside and in the tunnels and I don't know how you have managed to walk all that way all these many years. I felt I needed and wanted a golf cart to keep up with my Brandeis students. I am so proud of our youth. I have great hope and they really are leading the way on this effort. It reaches into the grammar schools this dream of a Dept of Peace. Many do not want to be President anymore. They want to be the Sec of Peace.
I know you have suffered much in your life. Most of it, we have suffered with you. I know you want to make your parents proud, as do I all these many years later. In my dream, I saw a giant statue of you outside the Capital building.
You were holding the final version of the Peace Bill in your hands and you were holding the papers over your heart . The inscription had 808 on it with other writing that was blurred but your head was up looking at the sky, eyes wide open and you were smiling.
I don't know if this email will even make it pass your staffers Senator; but if they should give it to you,I pray from this lonely pew on the left side in St. Francis Xavior's church in Hyanisport that you will sit with me for only a moment and remember those bakery goods from Martins Bakery and hear the voices
of our brothers and sisters, our mothers and fathers who can only hope we do now
what we should have long ago. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.
Thank you with all my heart Senator for standing strong in the hurricane of madness that we have had to bare these last 50 years. Regardless, what happens, you are loved and respected and we honor you in our prayers for your years of service to all of humanity.
Peace, Donald Orne- Marblehead, Ma
