Department of Peace PipedreamI fully support efforts at peace, which is why I joined this site. But do you folks really think that a new federal bureaucratic agency will succeed in stopping the warmongers when the entire Congress hasn't the will or power? Bush will soon invade Iran, another irrevocable tragedy. e need a populist revolt, folks, not more bureaucratic impotence. A third party might "evolve" out of our current mayhem, and many are trying to initiate just that (e.g. The Revolutionary Coalition, at TheRevolutionaryCoalition@Yahoogroups.com) But even this is na effort to solve our problems employing the very institutions which have failed us. The foundation for change is information, particularly truthful information to counter the lies the corporate-controlled media feed Americans daily. The truth is that not all Muslims are out to kill all infidels; that the war in Iraq was engineered by bankers, and by oil and defense industries that dominate our government; that Iran has not threatened to "wipe Israel off the map"; that Iran has no nuclear capabilities or the ability to attack us at home, though it is trying to convert oil into euro rather than dollar denominations (heresy!). Please check out the new film "America: Freedom to Fascism" (www.freedomtofscism.com) which is making real waves in this country. It's not just about the illegality of our tax structures (though it is, believe it or not, right on the money -- I'm a former tax attorney). The film is also about rigged voting machines and microchip domination. We are being enslaved, folks, and the Department of Peace is a distraction: it provides an illusion of change, but will be completely ineffectual against our corporate masters. In fact, they love the "watch the birdie" distraction of such an effort. Again, no offense to your intentions, but how about some effective change rather than symbolic? I have done several videos recently, which are doing well on google video and are making some waves. I invite you to check them out, and vote, and pass these links on if you deem them worthwhile. The Military Commissions Act and the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act created massive power in the feds and wiped out our Constitutional foundations, but most Americans are unaware. Martial law is at our door, at the hands of the new fascists. If the Supreme Court and Congress are to be muffled, what power will the Department of Peace possess? Please get informed about these Acts, and pass the word. They are both available at www.senate.gov. Here are the video links: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3966669656544060917 The second link is a parody of Bush's latest presidential address. Not only is it amusing, with Condoleeza Rice clapping for my criticisms of Bush, but more importantly it is jam-packed with information. I am trying to unite many disparate American groups who share a common enemy in this foul feceral government. Our divisiveness keeps our message down. Smoke the Pipe!
We are in danger, no doubt, yet the worst is not in our face, it is still on the table. Yet the people have spoken and they are no longer "in the game" so to speak and wish for the restoration of the constitution. So it is time to smoke the pipe dream and puff hard. Send the smoke signals in every direction. Passage of the Department of Peace speaks so loudly of what we the people want. It tells the government, no more business as usual... play day is over. Now for serious work on our own country! Smoke, smoke it daily!

The Dept of Defense has institutionalized violence on a global scale, taking the primal necessity to defend oneself to levels of aggresion and hegemony that today threatens the very existence of future life as we know it. It has been able to do so because of money and a national bully pulpit. As much as I share John's doubts about what a new bureaucracy is capable of doing, the whole idea of a shift in mindset from violence and aggresion to one of peace and reverence for all must be addressed on a national scale as much as we would like to think we can do this soley on the efforts of a grass roots movement or even a third party that was also suggested. We need a nationally visible leader that will do for the Dept of Peace what Rumsfeld has done for the Dept of Defense. we also need a means of peeling away federal monies from the Dept of Defence and using these funds to foster peace. Then a grass roots movement will have a national focus as well as a few frozen peace vigilist to support. Given the magnitude of this effort requires we work both inside and outside the system. As much as I would like to think we can do it only from outside the established, it to me remains a bit of a quixotic pipe dream.

Beautifully put, Rainbow Brain.
John, I believe that change will come from inside and outside the system. I don't think we will see a wholesale replacement of what we have with something entirely new. Nor do I believe that new permutations of our existing bureaucracies are the complete answer. Ultimately, peace is in the hearts and minds of real people, in a plethora of ways. Therefore education and practice are key to realizing peace within ourselves and to understanding each other. I have plenty to learn in this world, as I believe we all do. Personally, I learn best in a gentle and tolerant and open environment. Hostility, intolerance and negativity are simply no longer of use to me on my path.
Though, I respect and trust the process that others may be working through.
Peace.Jason.
Believe*Trust
Hey John,
Your believe that the government is corrupt and controlled by those interests is simply the factual truth of the trust which is offered and given by most leaders in power.
* * *
There is no certainty in the words of a leader, a prophet, nor even those of God, the certainty of all rests in their actions.
One who lacks the courage to stand with peace, needs only the courage to stand behind those who do not.
and so we*continue, lesser for that which we have been and are, yet greater in the knowing of what we could possibly be.
* * *
thank*you for having the courage to stand with peace, for many planks will be changed from both inside and outside the system in order to save and set the ship on its true course, to the realization and practice of the reality that "The Box", and its platform are the sphere of love and life we depend on, and that the slaves are not willing to allow the ship to go down, nor to continue walking a corrupted plank, into the jaws of fear.

Bureaucratic Limitation
Well, I support your effort: I just suggest that the root goal should be to educate, and I invite you to view the links I posted, and seek other groups who will unite with you, and you with them, even if there are differences in some of the planks in their platforms.
Please forgive me for believing that the federal government is corrupt, and controlled by the military-industrial-corporate-congressional complex. I have worked for years to seek to effect change through the system, and have learned first hand how it devours and wilts such efforts. Again, I support your efforts, but I suggest you could think "outside the box" of the structures being used to enslave us.
In Christ,

yes indeed
Yes indeed, I most certainly do. The goal is to foster, promote, nurture, facilitate and coordinate our peacebuilding capacities to the same extent that we have done so with our warmaking capacities. We only need 60% of the Congress.
Be well,
Jason.

The power of fear is corrupted and conquered from within, by those who work to weaken the false foundations surrounding the very heart of its strength. It is then that love rushes forth from beyond those dark boundaries where peace has always been available to rule the day, and flush out the cancer of fear.
