An Extraordinary EventDear Friends of Peace, I would like to invite to you participate in a special gathering of peace leaders - the Building a Culture of Peace conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on May 16-17, 2007. We will meet, 450 strong, from near and far, to explore deeply the critical question, "What would it take to transform the current culture of violence in our society to a true culture of peace?" Our plenary speakers include Arun Gandhi and Nobel Peace Laureates Rigoberta Menchu Tum and Jody Williams, plus H.H. the Dalai Lama by special video. That great peace maven, Swami Beyondananda, will also make a unique 'invisible appearance.' When not in plenary, we will gather in five Peace Councils: Demilitarization and a Peace Economy; Our Youth, Our Promise; Knowing the Other as Ourselves; The Living Spirit of Peace; and The Politics of Peace. These Councils, through an open-space process, will provide opportunities for us to dialogue together on the sub-issues about which we are most passionate. We will be looking for best practices, creative ideas, new alliances, and strategic action plans. Overall, we will be considering how we can galvanize a strong social change movement to make the principles and practices of peace meainstream in our world. After all, the forces of war and violence are highly strategic in their mission. Shouldn't we be? Please go to www.worldpeaceconference.org for more information and to register. Registration is only $45, but goes up to $65 on April 15. If you are reading this propeace site, this conference was designed specifically for you. See you in Santa Fe?! In peace,
