House approves $82 Billion more for Iraq

Tags:

It's an unbelievable amount of money. It defies logic that we continue to cut aid to our own people while spending lavishly on a foriegn country. Isn't our government "of, by and FOR the people"?

The vote in the U.S. House of Representatives was 388 to 43 with 3 not voting on HR-1268. So you and I and every other taxpayer will borrow another $82 billion from our children, and that will only last until September 30, 2005. Do you think this will be the last appropriation the administration will ask for?

Fourty-three voted against this appropriation, and 3 of those were Republicans. They should be congratulated for breaking party ranks. Here are their websites where you can find contact information if you are inclined to drop them a line:

Congressman Howard Coble, NC 6th District

Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr, TN 2nd District

Congressman Ron Paul, TX 14th District

Good job guys! Please discuss with other members of your party! And please support the Department of Peace while you're at it!

Reaching Across the Aisle

Thanks for this story, Jason. I read it when it first came out; I just didn't scroll down far enough to notice the links to the Congressmen themselves. And I hadn't made the connection with Reaching Across the Aisle. Consistent with my suggestion in the forum of this same title, I will certainly write to them, even though it is a bit after the fact by now.

How about a follow-up on this? Is there a way to use your feeds or whatever to notify you/us/me of what legislation is on the floor each day and who votes which way? Or is there perhaps a Congressional record newsletter that I should be subscribed to so that I can report to the propeace community myself?

The Bill that had me so upset, that had the creation of the Real ID program hidden in it, was from the first week in May. Your article is dated late March. We are missing some golden opportunities to promote that consciousness shift that we seek and simultaneously give those of us with tender hearts and the time to write a letter a chance to do something productive with our sense of outrage by thanking those who voted in our best interests, even if the majority forces the issue in the opposite direction.
