A Season For Nonviolence - Day 2, Jan 31 SMILING

DAY 2 Jan 31: The thought for today is SMILING. Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh said “If, in our daily life, we can smile . . . not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.” A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friendship and nonviolence. A smile not only improves our looks, it improves our outlook, and when our outlook improves, it is much easier to be at peace.

Today: I will share a sincere smile with everyone I meet, knowing that my smile contributes to peace.

smile bone connected to the heart bone

Great to have you back for another season for nonviolence, Len. The smile is one of those universal human expressions, which all cultures understand. Also, the smile directly opens the heart of both the giver and the receiver, making it a potent peacemaking tool. And so.... :-)

Peace.Jason.

and I am grateful for your comment

I feel elated when I read how just a simple reminder can make such a difference. Thank you for taking the time to share, thank you for making a difference!
Namaste,

Gratefulness Keeps Me Smiling

Today I was having a terrible day here in Fairbanks...everyone seems a little grumpy as the deeply cold winter bores into us, I ran out of my meds two days ago, which makes me off kilter, the mailman is 2 hrs. late so my plans are thrown awry, my taxi Co.'s radios are down, etc. One of THOSE days.
But as I waited and fretted, I remember to be grateful just to be alive in this wonderful if crazy world, to have family that shares an uncompromising love despite hardships borne and to feel the Grace of a mysterious and glorious Universe, filled with wonders. So I smile, smile in not so secret knowledge of a boundless Spirit...and my day changes into shared humanity with strangers and neighbors of mirrored warmth and inner peace. Love still makes the world go 'round!
