We will be showing a documentary film Beyond Wartime, focusing on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and some methods of healing, and a preview of the film Voices in Wartime: the Movie. Contact Manny or Pat for directions or to RSVP. 332-0732 or frisella@worldpath.net.

If you have experienced PTSD, you may experience intense emotional reactions to the film. Anne Melville, a social worker who works at the VA with PTSD veterans, will give a short talk and answer questions.

I just got the film and viewed it. It was pretty rough going in places, but is thankfully short, so while it is intense it is bearable. If you have dealt with PTSD, the movie will be intense. The payoff ... you will be reminded you are not alone. The reason for showing the film is that roughly 20% of the returning combat veterans are going to be suffering PTSD. It will be our job to help them reconnect with their communities, to understand their feelings, and to seek porfessional help if their needs are beyond our abilities. Last time around (Vietnam) people felt having a big todo and hiring would cure everything. That's when "going postal" entered the lexicon. Let's get it right this time, while we work to make it the last time.
