News from Planning for Peace in Groton, MA

I heard back from Carlene Clements of Planning for Peace, a group in Groton, MA. Here is what she had to say about this past weekend's activities:
On Saturday I joined a peace vigil in Stow MA at the invitation of Neil Saunders of the 1st Parish in Stow. I happened to see a woman wearing a Dept. of Peace pin there and since I have also become involved with the Dept of Peace, we struck up a conversation. She was with her husband and they are from Maynard. Now we are inviting them and peace people from other nearby peace groups to a film by George Lakoff followed by a discussion of his ideas, and of our values, presented here in Groton. Then on Sunday I joined the rally marking the 2nd anniversary of the Iraq War at Boston Common. Quite a large crowd filled the area and Howard Zinn being in the audience, was coaxed with many cheers, to speak, which he did. It was a short but inspiring and very meaningful speech. There I met the Buddist monks from Leverett, MA who walked from Groton to Boston in support of peace. These events where people connect are very important. Here in Groton, MA we have a few people who walk for peace with signs in the center of town every day, usually from 4:30 to 5:30 or 6 pm. Anyone who would like to join would be welcome any day. Signs are available but you can also bring your own.
