For decades, West Papuans have been denied independence -- both by neighboring Indonesia and by a global community that refuses to recognize their home as a sovereign nation. In recent months, in response to increasing resistance from West Papuans, Indonesian soldiers have stepped up the violence, prompting international groups to warn of ethnic cleansing and/or genocide. So where's the media coverage?

The above represents an example of the source of my impatience to get the DoP up and running. Isn't this exactly the sort of situation such a Department would want to de-escalate? Sure, it's the other side of the world, but so was Viet Nam, and with that imperialist sitting in the White House, I fear the American nose once again sticking its military self where it doesn't belong. After all, if (when) we pull out of Iraq, those bullies will be looking for another sandbox in which to demonstrate their high-tech toys.

And speaking of international groups, where is the [blush] UN in all this?
