welcomeMember of Humanity; Citizen of EarthI'm a contributing editor, not a managing editor on this site - although my opinion has been sought from time to time when changes are contemplated or on the even more rare occasions when something offensive is going on and the intervention option is being considered. (I think there have been only two.) I write when I can, when I've participated in something I want to share with this community, or when something I read here resonates in one way or another with something I cherish. I enjoy the time I spend here, and I have connected in a deep way with a handful of cyber-friends. I hope you are inspired to contribute by what you find here.

PRESS RELEASEI edited the press release for the Peace Wants a Piece of the Pie event and got it out to two newspapers (Post&Courier - mainstream; Skirt! - alternative) and six radio stations. The "City Paper" only comes out every two weeks, and they just released one. I googled "Charleston, SC media" to get my leads, and my criterion was that they have email contact information without joining anything. Not too scientific! I received a package of very useful materials today from Pat Simon. I'm glad I just got a supply of manilla folders from Ashley and Rachel. There is some terrific stuff in there including petition forms, FAQ sheet, copies of resolutions from the UU and various states, platform planks adopted by various politicians, a 12/18/04 article written by Matthew Albracht, the FCNL budget analysis, an open letter from Dot Maver, postcards and extra card stock for writing to congresspeople, a color version of the DoP poster, and the flyer. I'm so happy to have this stuff; it makes the Bill into something real instead of just an ideal and it has the signature lines of influential people in national organizations. I hope she took notes on what she sent me - what a wonderful start-up package to beginning activists in "red" areas! It's nice that I don't have to keep reinventing the wheel at every turn. And from my brief scan of the materials, I even learned something new: the DoP idea was born before 9/11 even happened!

propeace quoteWe have to resist the cynicism and the hopelessness which would tell us, "Oh, they're just going to steal [the election] again - I'm not going to vote!" because that becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy where you steal the election from yourself. If we abandon the process, the self-fulfilling prophesy of destruction of democracy takes over. daily omrecent blog posts

ON JULY 4, 1776
... a date that should ring a bell for everyone, the Second Continental Congress recognized the achievement of peace as one of the highest duties of the newly-formed USA.
That's from Finding #1 of Article #1 of the current DoP bill. I quoted that in my mass mailing, and added my own remark for the emphasis I believe the bill intended:
"DUTY! What does that mean to you?"
Of course, I was referring to the current bill. The time frame of spring 2001 has a very special significance to me.
"Blue in a Red State"
since 1792
The DoP idea has been around since 1792! It just didn't have a modern evangelist until 2001. See http://www.thepeacealliance.org/background/rush.htm.
