Dear Mayor Ragucci,

I am writing to ask for your support and your council's support in helping to establish a

United States Department of Peace.

Legislation, former HR 1673 , will be re-introduced into the House of Representatives on

September 13th by Congressman Dennis Kucinich and 53 other co-sponsors.

Mayor Ragucci, your support, the support of the city council, and community support for a U.S. Department of Peace, will make it happen, where it has been long overdue. I am coordinating , with the efforts of many, to inform communities of what the DOP Campaign is about : www.DOPcampaign.org , receive signature support through petitions, and do what I can , step by step, in helping for communities to heal by helping HR 1673 pass. I believe with greast conviction that a U.S. Department of Peace will insure a better future for us all. The U.S. Department of Peace will establish a cabinet at the executive branch of government, whose sole function will be to articulate, facilitate and research non-violent solutions to domestic and international conflict, preventing violence and promoting justice and democratic principles to expand human rights.

As an Everett resident, I can only imagine the overwhelming responsibilities that you and your esteemed colleagues carry, and I want you to know I applaud your efforts and service to us, here in Everett. I am so very grateful to be living in this community and this country, where I have the right to speak my mind and have the ability and freedom to help create a better world in which to live. We all bear witness to so much suffering in this country/world that it can seem, at times, to be most debilitating, threatening hopelessness. Yet, for those who have the eyes to see, we also bear witness to the manifestations that occur from acts, born of incredible love, selflessness, and a desire to help heal this world, step by step.

I believe , Mayor Ragucci, The Department of Peace will help to heal our communities, our country and our world, step by step.

Thomas Jefferson once stated, " ...laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."

Congressman Dennis Kucinich's conviction is far better than I can place into words and, I agree that:

"There is no better time to review age old challenges with new thinking that peace is not only the absence of violence, but the presence of a higher evolution of human awareness and respect, trust, and integrity toward humankind. Our founding fathers recognized that peace was one of the highest duties of the newly organized free and independent states. But too often, we have overlooked the long-term solution of peace for instant gratification of war. This continued downward spiral of violence must stop to ensure that future generations will live in peace and harmony."

In addition to my request for your support of this bill , Mayor Ragucci, I respectfully ask that you speak with others in your council, where people can renew their hope for their future and their children's future through their support of this bill. I have written to Representative Edward J. Markey, Senator John F. Kerry and Senator Edward M. Kennedy, asking for their co-sponsorship for a U.S. Department of Peace and am optimistic that support will continue as it has. Congressman James P. McGovern and Congressman John Olver both support The Department of Peace bill. There is growing number of co-sponsors because there is a growing belief that there is another way to help heal the many facets of our communities, our country, and our world - step by step.

I would like to come to your office and receive your signature of support. I most sincerely thank you for your time, your efforts, and your incredible dedication to this city by implementing new ways to help heal our communities. God bless you, God bless America, and God bless this World.

Sincerely,

Andrea Loretz-Frey
