Freedom to Read amendment passes

Great news! Thanks to the hard work of Rep. Bernie Sanders, his office, the many national organizations that worked tirelessly to defend reader privacy, and you -- the grassroots -- the House of Representatives voted in favor of the Freedom to Read Amendment yesterday. By a 238 to 187 vote, the House attached the bill, which prohibits the Justice Department from using Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act to demand library and bookstore records without a search warrant, to the Science, State, Justice, and Commerce (SSJC) Appropriations Bill.
