The "War on Terror" is over

The administration is reframing the "War on Terror" as a "struggle against violent extremism." I see this as a step in the right direction. It's subtle, but will eventually have an impact on how war proponents think. We are no longer at war. We are struggling to put an end to violence. This is good.

Of course, we should reserve judgement until we see tactical changes. Let's hope the administration can recognize its own violent extremism! But the softening of language is evidence of a softening of thought and will hopefully lead to a softening of deeds.

This Is Real

I, too, hear the bones clattering to the dining room floor and the sweet puppy dogs lying there at the feet of power gnawing contentedly while the real power stays on the table top. However, even though the short term effect comes to nil, the change in expectations will erode the stranglehold of violence in the mindset of the nation. It's the same argument I've seen about why we do or do not need a Department of Peace. Even if the DoP were ineffective - even if it never gets created at all - the change in the expectations among Americans that results from the campaign itself will make the effort worthwhile by elevating peace to the no-brainer we think it ought to be by this time in our evolution. As a side benefit, it is the effort itself, not the end result, that will produce the solidariy among progressive thinkers who currently find themselves divided on some fundamental issues.

"Blue in a Red State"

Bones*

i hope your right, but my gut feeling and opinion is that bones are being tossed to the hounds, the fox knows they are closing in, thus the court appointments and the language (for now) will reflect a move in certain directions without really making those moves, it's the old bait and switch, S.O.S. as usual. When will people understand that you can not expect truth from evol, the only course for change is to not give ones power and energy to it.

the system is designed to limit war, but continue the struggle, inorder that a build up toward the next war can be funded from the energy of those who deem themselfs free, who are in fact the true violent extremist.
