Resolution before the Board of Aldermen - Everett, MAOn July 25th, Pat Simon, Andrea Loretz-Frey and I attended the Board of Aldermen meeting in Everett, MA to summarize the Department of Peace bill and to put a resolution before the board in support of the bill. Our presentation was very well received. The resolution will be voted on at the next meeting on August 22nd. Download the City of Everett resolution: DoP Resolution - Everett, MA.doc Passing resolutions such as this one at the city and town level can send a powerful message to the congressmen whom we are lobbying. The message is that the lower levels of government, those closest to the day-to-day lives of American citizens, are fully in support of establishing a Department of Peace. They are now aware that two thirds of the Department of Peace addresses domestic issues such as child, spousal and elderly abuse, gang violence and violence in schools. The city and town officials have to address these problems at a more personal level, as it is their friends and neighbors who are affected. The Department of Peace would not only create executive power to address peace, but it would signify a deeping commitment to peace in our culture.
