less imperfect peace

I frequently meet people who are skeptical of the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace. They give good reasons, citing examples of how such an entity could be corrupted or rendered ineffective. Certainly any human institution is subject to that. I think what is overlooked is the change in emphasis that would accompany the creation of a seat for peace at the table of power. Peace would become a competing concern in the exercise of executive power. It could be rendered effectively or ineffectively just as any other instrument of executive power. But it would mean that our government is in the peace business as surely as today it is in the war business. The billions of dollars budgeted for the department would be spent into the economy of our nation, creating a self-fueling industrial complex around peace, just as we have created one with the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on "defense." Sure there would be big bureaucracy, big business, even corruption as in any humanly-flawed institution. I prefer that to some ideal solution that no one seems to have identified yet. While waiting for this ideal solution to be identified our focus will be distracted again and again as the patterns of violence repeat. Let's accept our flawed humanity and strive for a less imperfect peace.

We must

Great to read the hope of good people for Peace
in the world, not to mention for ourselves.

My thought's on this; If we all make a commitment to Peace,
in time,we will have our Peace Department. In more time,
we will have a better world, But if we don't try?

Love Rules

Love, I'd settle for one hour, or even one minute, if the minds of humanity could be brought into harmony and resonance so that people could see that WE CAN.

"Blue in a Red State"

inertia

Your comment about stopping makes me think of the law of inertia which says that an entity will continue in its direction and velocity (or in its standing still) until a force is applied to it. The day of stoppage you wish for would be a day of incredible potential energy as the will of humanity, its force, gathers for the resumption of movement. That potential could lead to great harmony if the will of humanity could be turned such that it pushes in a healthy direction.

Hopefully this website is turning the will of at least some of humanity. If I can make THE difference in the life of just ONE visitor to this website, it will have been well worthwhile. Your poetic wisdom makes a huge difference for me.

I hope you find the genie in the bottle so you can make your wishes...

The Day the Earth Stood Still

given three wishes, the first would be to stop the people of this world in their tracks for one*day, no shopping, no partys, no work, no play, so they could see the true power which they hold to effect change with their collective will.

the second would be that the world would hear and support the love, logic and truth of ones such as Jason White & Susan Livingston.

the third would be to follow you all on your journey to spiritual freedom, global peace, and the discovery of truth.
