using CivicSpace for peace activitiesHello! It's good to see other peace related sites using CivicSpace to get their message out. I've just installed CivicSpace on my personal site. At this point, my installation is just a trial, a practice session to get my administration skills developed. My goal is to use CivicSpace for the Dallas Peace Center's new interactive web site. To that end, I'd love to hear what other site administrators have learned about CivicSpace, particularly about security (there seem to be quite a few malicious, pro-Bush hacker types out there!), the taxonomy features, and themes. Have a look at my site-in-progress and share your thoughts. http://www.artiefacts.com/dallaspeacecenter/ Thanks. Artie

Hello Jason!
I've been meaning to post here, but things have been really chaotic lately. I got married, and I'm trying to finish my master's degree. This CivicSpace implementation of mine is actually a small part of my master's "capstone" project. I'm just getting my feet wet with Drupal/CivicSpace, learning the ropes. By the way, is there a way to do attribution in replies?

I need help with this! Seems like it should be simple, but so far, I can't figure out how to get that to work.
The "archive" is not a module, just my first attempt at taxonomy. This is where I could use some help, too.
I'll be contacting Ethan soon. In the meantime, thanks to you and Susan for your replies!

looking good
Hi Artie,
Your site looks great! Where did you get the "archive" module? Is that from drupal? I need one of those. I tried "week" recently and it didn't work well.
I was unable to register on your site as a new user. I submitted contact information, but could not find a link to register.
I haven't heard too much grumbling about security in CivicSpace/Drupal, although I know that there was a recent point release to address security issues. I'm sure you've browsed the forums on civicspacelabs.org and drupal.org, right? Very active forums. Chances are that others are asking similar questions.
Haven't done much with themes here. I'm using standard "bluemarine" theme. No customizations except for the logo.
Taxonomy is something that I hoping to get to soon. As the scope of activities and number of locations increases on this site, I expect there will be confusion unless posts and pages can be properly classified. We kicked around some ideas recently, but have not had time to implement. From looking at your site, I see that you've done more than I on taxonomy. I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences.
Just talked to Ethan Kiczek who is webmaster at antiwarboston.org. He's a good resource, which I think I mentioned last time you contacted me. He just attended the CivicSpace conference in New York a few weeks ago, so he's up on all the latest things CivicSpace. You can contact him here: http://www.propeace.net/privatemsg/msgto/37
Let me know when you go live and I'll announce here and put a link on my links page.
Best,
Jason.
Welcome
Howdy, Texas! South Carolina here. Welcome aboard, and best of luck with your site. Our Webmaster is probably busy helping his wife have my fifth grandson (third for them) right now, but I'm sure you'll be hearing from him soon.
We'd love to get you involved in the bipartisan interstate effort to rally support for the Bill (H.R. 1673) to create a Cabinet-level Department of Peace. A summary of the legislation is available here. At last count, we had 55 Congressional sponsors. If you'll look in our left margin, you will see that our network is expanding, and we'd be glad to have Dallas on board. Check it out and see what you think.
The current goal of The Peace Alliance is to have at least one District Coordinator at the annual conference in Washington, D.C. September 10-12 from each of the 430 or so Congressional Districts in this country to show widespread support for the legislation, which is due to be introduced on the floor of the House on the 13th. If you visit there, you will learn about national efforts by Dennis Kucinich, Marianne Williamson, and others with names you'll recognize.
Meanwhile, over the next three months, we are hard at work trying to spread the word. I invite you to browze around here. This site is very interactive; you have your own blog, and you can post stories and events as well as comment on anything you see or write directly to any author. Then visit the State pages and see what kinds of local activities you might be interested in promoting and coordinating. You can reach the DoP Campaign State pages either from here or from The Peace Alliance.
We'd love to include your site in the network. You can email our webmaster directly at peace@propeace.net to tie in and learn more about how this site operates.
Once again, welcome to the propeace community!
