the cusp of inevitable transformation

Truth is inevitable because we humans are truth-seekers. We have always been and always will be on the cusp of inevitable transformation. Only fear stands in the path of transformation. But as our fears play out, we overcome them. We have only to continue in this process to continue opening the path to truth.

In this we are all struggling. In some we recognize the struggle as they grapple with fears we have already overcome. They often frustrate us with their lack of progress and the actions they take as a result of the fears they still harbor. Others, those who are beyond us on the path, exhibit a level of understanding that is bafflingly broad. We yearn to achieve what they have. The rest, those with whom we equate ourselves and with whom we share world views, we would call "like-minded individuals".

For the first group, those who are behind us on the path, we must help them reach a greater understanding. This requires enormous patience as their actions often frustrate us and impose upon us fears we have already personally vanquished.

The second group, those who are ahead of us on the path, we must humbly look to for inspiration. This requires a good deal of faith as their way of life and reasoning seems beyond our grasp.

With those we consider like-minded, we have only to continue to do what we do. Mistakes will be made, fears will manifest, lessons will eventually be learned. Inevitable change will come as we learn to relax the fears that hinder it, including the fear that change will not come. To do our part to bring about transformation we have only to love our families, befriend our neighbors, do good deeds and spread the good word - whatever that is for each of us. Be the transformation and the transformation will be.

Institutional transformation does not proceed as quickly as personal transformation. The institutionalized fear remains in its structures even after the people who make up the institution have overcome those fears. The machine rolls on, seemly unable to correct its course. But institutions can change if they have the capacity for change built in.

I often find myself in awe of the founders of this country. For me they are in the second group, those who are ahead of me on the path. They neatly arranged the capacity for change into our government by tying it inexorably to the people's capacity for change. The people are the ultimate and rightful holders of power in this country. As personal transformation inevitably reaches them, our institutions will follow the votes. Be patient but keep working.
