Congressman John Tierney will make a statement and answer questions about the war in Iraq at the First Parish Church on the Bedford Common on Sunday November 20th., 2:30 to 5pm. at The First Parish Church, 75 Great Rd., Bedford.
Democratic State Committeeman, Tom Larkin of Bedford said, "The Forum on Iraq is going to be question and answer driven. While most of the organizers are critical of the invasion and its consequences, this is not an anti-war rally. The purpose of the forum is to develop and share fact based information on the economic and human cost of the war. Anyone with factual information about Iraq is welcome to attend and share that information. The forum is open to the public."
The forum will also have a report from Brian Hart of Bedford, a gold star father who has developed a web site (http://minstrelboy.blogspot.com/) dedicated to informing the public about, and actively advocating for, the needs of the military troops in Iraq. The planning of the Forum on Iraq has included Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) and the Minuteman Forum, a Middlesex area group planning a series of informational meetings on public policy issues. Rep. Charles Murphy, Sen. Susan Fargo and other local elected officials will report on state legislative initiatives to support returning Massachusetts troops. Joseph Dooley from the Bedford VA Hospital will give a report on returning veterans and how people can get involved in helping them.
Information is being compiled which will be available at the forum including: a bibliography of current books, web sites and articles about the war in Iraq as well as an analysis of the economic cost of the war on local communities. Following the forum, there will be a reception with light refreshments, conversation and opportunities to join a book club, sign petitions, join organizations, help veterans and other follow-up activities.
This Forum on Iraq is being convened by the Third Middlesex Area Democrats, which includes local democratic party leaders from the city of Waltham and the towns of Bedford, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Sudbury and Weston.
