welcomeMember of Humanity; Citizen of EarthI'm a contributing editor, not a managing editor on this site - although my opinion has been sought from time to time when changes are contemplated or on the even more rare occasions when something offensive is going on and the intervention option is being considered. (I think there have been only two.) I write when I can, when I've participated in something I want to share with this community, or when something I read here resonates in one way or another with something I cherish. I enjoy the time I spend here, and I have connected in a deep way with a handful of cyber-friends. I hope you are inspired to contribute by what you find here.

The President's SpeechI didn't hear the speech, and I won't read the transcript. Why bother? I already know what was said. However, I just received two things from very different sources that might help to put things in perspective. Yesterday's snail mail brought me the following quote from Adolph Hitler: "Terror is the best political weapon, for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death." This morning, I had email from Jan Bongers ("Imagine" magazine), and he did the word count below on the transcript of the president's speech.

The Democratic Platform
"They" have made so many mistakes now that the Dems are gloating. "Now we have a platform," they say. "Just keep throwing all their misdeeds in their faces." I cancelled my subscriptions to their news services about the time you wrote your open letter. Get real with the Reality Party - in your pj's!

Re: The Problem with Impeachment
Precisely. And this needs to be applied to the political culture too. Remember what a drain the Clinton impeachment was on our country? MoveOn.org was founded and named out of the desire to "move on" from that ridiculous escapade. Impeachment will simply be another way for one party to dominate over and punish the other, thus perpetuating the culture of dominance and subordination.
There may have been some serious crimes committed, but restraint will be much more effective in the end. What we are going for here is to have our fellow Americans in power learn the lessons that are before them, and to work to change what is broken. We want Americans to succeed in peace not to be destroyed in political defeat and embarrassment for their human faults and frailties. We want to fix what's broken, and working only to punish those who have strayed is not going to do that. There is a vast amount of work to do. Impeachment is a huge distraction.
Censure will be much more effective. Follow that up with a critical look at the system of checks and balances. Start a truthful dialog about the cost of waging war versus the savings of fostering peace. While we're at it, how about a serious discussion of fairness in elections and voting technology? How about a re-think of the political party system? How about the imminent end of fossil fuel resources? How about the now proven effects of global warming, and the causes?
As long as one group believes the other is attempting to dominate, there can be little constructive dialog. Politicians feel very threatened by each other, and expend a lot of energy posturing and positioning themselves. But we need an open, frank and non-accusatory discussion of the real problems.
So impeachment may seem like the upper hand. And it is. Business as usual.
The Problem with Impeachment
You rule, Rainbow Brain! All of this hot air and ink and bytes that is spent by the so-called left is REactive, not PROactive. Our time and energy are better spent rebuilding our legislature a short 10 months from now and working at a local level to support a culture based on life and hope instead of fear, punishment, and domination. The Blame Game is a boring one. Let's get creative and proactive!

S.O.S.
To impeach the Bush, rather than letting it Burn and flame out, would be giving the S.O.S. as in S.ame O.ld S.hit signal to all of the agenda base global system, understand this, that removal of a head of state, a CEO or any type of figure head is a construct of agenda, which is designed to point nearly all the blame on that individual, this allows things to go on pretty much as usual. It is the most simple type of deception used over and over to keep the sheep blind to the real motives of those who use ego as their power base.
S.O.S.
Think about it, is that what one truly wants, after being awakened to the reality of how inadequate the system is.
It may not be easy, but allowing the failure to almost completely run its course will drive the change to a much better and perhaps a sooner outcome. This is the nature of collapse, and its companion, corruption, it will of course scramble to seem like it is the savior and try to show it is doing what is right and best for all, the important thing, is to stay awake, for when the time is right, their fading, inadequate belches of hot air will be no match for the strength and power of the numbers who see the light.
If you build it, they will come.
